Wow, what a busy year it has been! It has been a great year; let’s look
back on all the excitement that has occurred.
August
School started with loads of
excitement.
September
All the grandparents were invited in to have a Grandparents day
breakfast celebration with their grandchild.
Parents came on Back to School night to meet teachers and admire the
newly painted hallways.
The middle school students enjoyed an educational day at the State Fair.
At the Home and School meeting many parents had the chance to meet our
counselor when she talked about bullying.
Students hopped their way to some fun during the Hop a Thon.
First graders had a chance to visit the farm.
Fourth and fifth graders learned a lot about the grains grown in Kansas
when they attended the 4-H extension building.
October
Students took wonderful pictures that will be displayed in the year
book.
October also brought competition with the scholar bowl teams competing
and the 8th grade winning first place.
Students had fun learning about Science by participating in Mad Science.
Thanks to Grace Blum, the eighth graders began to learn a new language,
Spanish.
The students lead the Rosary in honor of the month of the Rosary.
October brought the excitement of Fun Night. Wow, I was so impressed
with all the parents’ hard work and dedication.
Students received a dental check-up provided by the Health Department.
November
We celebrated Veteran’s day by inviting our family members that served
in the military to eat lunch with us. God bless America!
Students filled boxes for the food drive that we donated to Catholic
Charities.
Sixth and seventh grade students enjoyed the talent of high school
students at the Bishop Carroll play!
Our resource officer came to the November Home and School Meeting to
discuss the importance of internet safety.
The eighth graders were invited to the curriculum fair at Bishop
Carroll; they found out that high school is going to be different.
Classes in 3-6 grades enjoyed the soothing sounds of the Wichita
Symphony.
The Thanksgiving dinner allowed for fellowship of students, parents, and
parishioners. The dinner was enjoyed by many.
December
The students at Christ the King “stuffed the Bus” for Catholic
Charities.
Christ the King Catholic School sponsored a Chili night with the Book
Fair. We had a wonderful turn out.
Second graders celebrated their First Confession.
The Christmas program brought many shining stars.
Students received a pizza party for meeting their goals on Fun night.
January
Sister Ursula came and spoke about the missions.
We started Catholic Schools week with the celebration of the Holy
Eucharist.
Christ the King shared their giving spirit by collecting $575 for Haiti.
February
Catholic Schools week continued with Christ the King hosting the West
side religion bowl where our 8th graders took second place.
Father Antoine came and celebrated adoration of the Eucharist with the
students. The ARC performers came and shared their talent with the
students and the National Guard demonstrated the proper way to fold a
flag. The students also launched balloon that traveled as far as
Missouri and worked hard at spelling to become the top speller in the
spelling bee.
The 8th graders participated in a retreat at the Sisters of
St. Joseph motherhouse, where the focus was “Doing Good in God’s Name”.
February brought more competition in scholar’s bowl where the 8th
grade team took second.
The 8th grade boys took third in their post season basketball
tournament.
Students help to raise money for the Diocesan Drexel Campaign. This
money could help to support Christ the King Catholic School.
March
Students participated in the Stations of the Cross as part of Lent.
Sixth grade students learned about Vocations.
In preparing for another good year we had preregistration and
Kindergarten round up.
The fifth and sixth grade students participated in Battle of the Books
and performed well.
Wow, what a great job the students and parish did collecting box tops we
raised $711!
April
The students enjoyed another great concert at the Symphony.
Sixth graders practiced stewardship by hosting a dinner where the
proceeds went to the missions.
Fifth and sixth graders continued competing in Battle of the Books.
Track season started and brought much success.
Second graders received their First Holy Communion.
The kindergarten learned about Chicken Little as they attended the
Wichita Children’s Theatre.
Students from Bishop Carroll have provided the sixth graders with some
background in the German language.

going to Oklahoma City
May 19 is the volunteer appreciation Mass and the spring musical
May 24 is the 8th grade promotion
May 26 is the cook out and Field Day
May 27 is the last day of school with noon dismissal
Christ the King Catholic School has truly been blessed by a great year!
Sports Banquet
Christ the King Catholic School is hosting a sports banquet for all
middle school student and their families who played sports this school
year. The sports banquet will be Thursday May 6, 2010 at 6pm. Glen
Hansard will be preparing a Mexican Fiesta. Each team will be asked to
bring sides while Mr. Hansard prepares the meat. If you have not already
sent in your RSVP, please call the office as soon as possible.

Crowning
This year’s May Crowning, including a living rosary, will be an eighth
grade spiritual journey. The eighth graders who would like the privilege
of crowning Mary have been asked to write an essay on why they should be
the students chosen for the honor of crowning Mary.
All students in Christ the King Catholic School will be asked to bring
flowers like carnations, roses, or daisies. Each class will have a vase
to put their flowers in. A student from each class will be chosen to
process with their class’s vase. The flowers will be placed at the foot
of the statue of Mary in her honor.
Fun
Night
Fun night is looking for more volunteers to join their committee. The
planning will begin soon. If
you are interested in joining this committee please contact the school
office at 943-0111.
I find it a privilege to be part of such a great
